PostHeaderIcon Mini-pupillage

Today was my first day embarking on a mini-pupillage programme in Newport. I took the train which was roughly a half an hour ride and another 10 mins by foot. When I reached Newport, I stopped by to read the map to get to my destination. There and then, an old man stopped by and asked me gently whether I needed help. So sweet right?! I really thank God because if he hadn't guided me, I would have definitely headed to the opposite direction.

My first day spent at the Crown Court was simply a memorable one because I learnt so much! I have to summarize it because Im so sleepy now and might K.O. anytime. There were 3 barristers that I followed today and sat through 4 hearings regarding rape, aggravated burglary and theft. The barristers were all very friendly and it's really nice to see how much respect they hold for one another even in the court room itself. When the defendant's counsel didn't understand a few points that the prosecution has put forward, the prosecution actually took time to explain it to the defendant's lawyer. No snickering or bullying like we see back home. My barrister told me that it is the British culture to respect and not to hold any personal grievances against one another even if you do not agree with the other party's view point.

Some cases had very sad endings- especially when the court found a 16 year old guilty and sentenced him 2 years in detention. I followed the barrister as he spoke to the defendant's father and to the son who was locked up, waiting to be transferred for detention.

And guess what, the 3rd barrister was so kind to offer me a lift back to Cardiff in his BMW sports car! hehe. He will also be giving me a lift back to Cardiff again tomorrow because it is on his way back home to Penarth. Im so thankful because it was pouring heavily today and I would have been stranded in the train station for a long time. Not only that, because he parked his car near the wall which would have made it difficult for me to enter, he told me to wait as he reversed the car. He then came out from his car to open the door for me when it was raining. And they say chivalry is dead, but to me, it is passionately well and alive in cardiff. Today, an old man that was sitting down in a cafe, stood up and walked quickly to open the door for me when he realized that i was walking towards the exit. Ah! Im always so flattered and amazed at how gentleman the welsh people are. Baby says she wants to get a Welsh bf. hahaha.

Okie gtg sleep adi. So tired!

We do not remember days; we remember moments. I was once told by a friend that we should do the following: To laugh often and much; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; and know that great things can only come with hardship because everything happens for a reason.
